To own an item from Poterie Renault is to own a piece of a historic legacy of potters. Stanislas Renault first opened his workshop in Argent-sur-Sauldre, France in 1847. For over 173 years and five generations, Poterie Renault continued to handcraft iconic brown-glazed “poterie gres” from French alluvial clay fired in original kilns fed with abundant local trees. The workshop sadly closed its doors in 2011. Poterie Renault’s sturdy stoneware made with hand-turning methods remained unchanged for generations and was a common sight on many bistro tables throughout France in the 19th and 20th centuries.
